BURSARIES AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN HEALTH SCIENCES
The aim of the bursary scheme
The aim of the bursary scheme is to provide financial assistance in a fair and equitable manner to prospective employees of the Department in order to increase the knowledge and skills available to the Department in designated fields and in so doing:
Redress race and gender inequities and provide financial assistance to those economically disadvantaged persons with insufficient disposable income to support their own studies and therefore would not be able to enter the health the health profession
Act as a recruitment strategy to meet the demand for a skilled persons in designated areas of health service
As a bursar, after completion of your studies you will be required to enter into contractual agreement with the Department.
Applicants who do not as yet work for the Department of Health (full-time students) but who wish to study to enter the health services will be selected according to the following criteria:
Applicants must be South African citizens
Applicants must have been permanent residents in the Gauteng province for at least one (1) year prior to application.
Applicants must study at a recognized higher education institution in the Republic of South Africa.
Applicants must study in one of the fields designated by the department as priority areas
Preference will be given to applicants who are themselves or whose parents/ guardians are economically disadvantaged.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously benefited from the Gauteng Department of Health bursary fund.
Preference will be given to applicants who have not benefited from any other bursary scheme.

Pharmacy
Podiatry
Speech Therapy
Physiotherapy
Occupational Therapy
Medical Orthotics & Prosthetics
Optometry
Dentistry, Oral Hygiene, Dental technology and related fields
Environmental Health
Clinical Engineering/ Technology
